Weed Tips & How To's

  • Don't expect total eradication. Have a realistic level of tolerance for weeds.
  • Identify the weed. Mechanical or horticultural methods are effective for most annual and perennial weeds. Hand pull as much as you can – throw a weeding party!
  • Don't use herbicides as a preventative measure. Avoid "weed and feed" type products. These products…. (more to come...)
  • For long-term weed management, concentrate on proper plant selection and horticulture thereby designing out weed habitats.
  • In food gardens hoe or hand pull, use grass or leaf mulches, plant living mulches and minimize turning of the soil.
  • Avoid turning the soil in any garden beds as this draws weed seeds to the surface where they will germinate.
